Gazza hurt his shoulder during one of the challenges, an obstacle course in the water that involved climbing up a trellis and then ducking under a net beneath the water.

It was all to win a large plate of pasta with meatballs for the group, who otherwise have to survive on rice they cook themselves on a campfire and whatever they manage to catch or scavenge.

According to TV Fanpage, who follow Italian reality TV programmes, Gascoigne dislocated his shoulder during the challenge and did not return to the beach with the others.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and it’s reported he will have to pull out.

The official Isola dei Famosi Twitter account left it open to interpretation, posting only: “Come back soon, Super Paul.”
