According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gennaro Gattuso will sign a new contract with Napoli by Christmas.

Gattuso’s current agreement with Napoli expires at the end of the season and according to the report, the 42-year-old will pen a new two-year deal with the San Paolo hierarchy worth €1.9m-a-year.

The two parties have almost reached a total agreement after that Aurelio De Laurentiis agreed to lower a €7m clause which he would have liked to have included in the new contract if the relationship between the parties had been cut short.

Gattuso and Napoli initially decided to negotiate a new contract in springtime, but the directors of the club wanted to reach an agreement earlier and in the last few days they came close to finalizing the deal.

On Thursday night, Napoli reportedly confirmed Gattuso’s agent Jorge Mendes their intention to close the deal and extend their coach’s contract.

The official announcement is expected around Christmas.

Gattuso was appointed Napoli coach in December 2019. He has a 1.83-point average in 35 games so far.
