Tuttomercatoweb claim The Friedkin Group are close to a €600m takeover of Roma, on the verge of an agreement with James Pallotta, who could then reinvest in Newcastle United.
They had originally been in advanced negotiations, as confirmed by a statement from AS Roma, but the deal was stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent change in financial outlook all over the world, not just in sport.
The offer was reduced and the timing of the payment changed, so Pallotta pulled out, calling it ‘unacceptable.’

In recent weeks, the interest resumed and now TMW suggest they are close to an agreement for circa €600m.
That is still significantly less than the original reported €800m proposal, but the timing should be moved forward.
Meanwhile, rumours are again surfacing in the Corriere dello Sport that Pallotta could reinvest that money by purchasing Premier League club Newcastle United.
Their takeover by a Saudi conglomerate was abandoned this week, so the Magpies are still seeking a new buyer.
