Edy Reja says he does not care what is happening elsewhere in the League, he only has eyes for Lazio being bold for Saturday evening’s trip south to Lecce.

The Biancocelesti find themselves fourth in Serie A but with a five-point advantage over fifth-placed Napoli.

Reja has demanded, though, that his team are only focused on ruining Serse Cosmi’s debut as Lecce Coach.

“Let’s go to Lecce to impose our game. We have to enter the field with the right mentality. We know about Cosmi’s experience, he will have a strong impact when it comes to the players to motivate them highly.

“We do not care what others are doing. We must maintain this gap from fifth place. Inter and Roma are teams equipped to recover.”

The veteran Coach then reflected on his former side Napoli’s Champions League success this season. Reja took over at the San Paolo in January 2005 with the team in Serie C1. In a four-year spell at the club, Reja enjoyed successive promotions to take the team back into the top flight and also qualified the team for the UEFA Cup.

“I was part of this project’s initiation. The players like [Ezequiel] Lavezzi are doing extraordinary things.

“Some of the merit is mine, but most of it belongs to [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis who has provided unobtrusive financial support, [former sporting director] Pierpaolo Marino and now [Walter] Mazzarri who is doing an extraordinary job.”
