Edy Reja confirmed he’ll take over at Lazio after Vladimir Petkovic signed for Switzerland, with an announcement expected today.

“I don’t know if I will go to Lazio or not, but if Inter sign Ezequiel Lavezzi after January 6, I’d be happier,” joked Reja in the Corriere dello Sport, referring to the Biancocelesti’s upcoming game against the Nerazzurri.

“Facing a champion like him on my debut would not be the best. If he weren’t there, I’d have one less thing to worry about.”

Petkovic caused shockwaves this week when announcing he had put pen to paper on a contract to take over the Swiss national team after the 2014 World Cup.

It is believed Petkovic refused to resign, so Lazio will try to fire him for ‘lying’ about his negotiations with Switzerland, even though his contract with the club expires in June 2014.

Reja returns to Lazio after a spell from February 2010 to June 2012. He attempted to resign several times, but the offer was always rejected by President Claudio Lotito.
