Edy Reja feels Lazio “deserve nothing but applause” after fans struggled to celebrate victory over Cesena, still smarting from the derby defeat.

There were few supporters in the stands of the Olimpico for this afternoon's win and those who were present jeered the Coach and President Claudio Lotito.

“We are coming off five consecutive derby defeats and our fans are disappointed, as we are too, so it wasn't easy to lift the team's morale at the start of the week.

“Today we proved that we can react to difficulties and I'd say these players deserve nothing but applause. Certainly they should have more respect from the media and some sections of the crowd.

“There should be less criticism, considering these lads are having an extraordinary campaign with 36 points earned on home turf.”

Mauro Zarate has often complained at his tactical status, but was moved to a more advanced position today and scored the only goal.

“Zarate had a very good game,” noted Reja. “He is a player of great talent and these are the performances we expect from him. I'm sure he can give us a big hand over the next few rounds.”

Francelino Matuzalem will be suspended for the next game against Napoli and possibly several more, as he was caught on camera elbowing Luis Jimenez.
