The Biancocelesti had seemed done for after last week’s 3-3 home draw with Torino, but surged back into contention with a 2-0 victory away to Livorno.
There are now five teams within a one-point radius all fighting for one place, as only the top six go into Europe.
“Today we put in a fine performance and wanted to catch sixth place so we could continue challenging for Europe right to the end,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“It would be a great achievement for us and we need nine points in the next three rounds. Unfortunately we drew with Torino, but mistakes can happen.
“It’s a tough battle for sixth and a lot will depend on what condition we’re in going into the head-to-heads.”
Reja had to reshuffle in recent weeks with Miroslav Klose out injured, so adopted a new strikerless system.
“We don’t give reference points to the opposition defence, as Keita, Antonio Candreva and Stefano Mauri move around a lot. The important thing is that they go back to their positions when covering counter-attacks.”
It’s also remarkable Lazio have maintained this form during a ‘civil war’ between ultras and the club, as they are boycotting games.
“We are entirely in sync with the club and, regardless of Europa League qualification, want to bring top level players to Lazio. We want to give our fans a team that can be in the top four or five positions.”
