The Vesuviani are winless from their last three Serie A games, to compound a miserable start to the season that also includes early Champions League elimination.

For one of the club’s former midfielders now turned pundit, the climate for change is increasingly apparent.

“I think that the club have to decide to either keep Benitez until the end of the season or change soon, possibly before next international break,” Bagni has told Neapolitan daily Il Mattino.

“From the outside, you get the impression that the relationship between De Laurentiis and Benitez is almost at the end.

“Personally, if they didn’t win at Sassuolo on Sunday, I’d seriously take into consideration a change on the bench.

“Benitez keeps playing with a 4-2-4 but in fact he doesn’t have the men to play in that way. De Laurentiis would prefer a Coach with a European pedigree but nobody would move now.

“I think that Edy Reja until June would be the perfect fit.”

Speculation is that Napoli will assess Benitez’s position on the bench during the October international break.
