Bologna boss Stefano Pioli is confident that Marco Di Vaio will soon start to ripple the net again with consistency.

The veteran scored 55 goals in 106 League games for the club over the previous three seasons, but he’s netted just twice in 12 ties so far this term.

“He hasn’t got any fitness issues as he demonstrates on a daily basis in training,” Pioli told Radio Sportiva on Thursday when questioned about the 35-year-old.

“When you’re unable to score goals on a regular basis then it is obvious that you start to have problems.

“But Di Vaio has almost always been a starter under me and I’m convinced that he will satisfy us this season.”

Pioli could certainly do with Di Vaio’s goals as he attempts to keep Bologna up following a fleeting stint at Palermo in the summer.

“I was there for such a brief time that it is hard to analyse what went wrong in Sicily,” said the former Chievo boss.

“I don’t think you can blame me because I was only there for 40 days. There were other situations to question.

“It was an important opportunity for me which unfortunately didn’t go well, but I’m now happy to be at Bologna.”
