Andrea Ranocchia has revealed that he will sign a contract renewal at Inter ‘within a matter of hours’.

The central defender has become one of the lynchpins of Walter Mazzarri’s Nerazzurri, taking over the captain’s armband following Javier Zanetti’s retirement.

And the Italy international has insisted that he wants to commit long-term to the San Siro outfit.

“I will sign a renewal with a matter of hours really,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Playing with the captain’s armband really is a great honour for me. It excites me, and has convinced me to stay.

“I learned so much from Zanetti – he was the first to arrive for training and always stood up when things weren’t going well.

“Considering he won the Treble he was such a humble guy.”

Ranocchia then commented on Erick Thohir’s reign as President, and how he’s changing the club.

“With Thohir we are changing a lot. We are creating a new, exciting team.

“Look at Bayern Munich. They suffered a few setbacks a couple of years ago, but are now back with a philosophy, stronger than ever.”
