And speaking after yesterday’s 3-0 pre-season friendly win over Lugano, the 30-year-old believes there will be enough matches during the campaign for everyone to prove their worth.

“They are high-class players with experience and a lot of games behind them,” Ranocchia said of the signings of Radja Nainggolan, Stefan De Vrij, Kwadwo Asamoah, Matteo Politano, Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco.

“They will definitely give an important contribution to the group.

“The year will be long, with many matches, and there will be space for everyone.”

Ranocchia added that although Inter found it tough against their lower-league opponents, they need to continue to work hard in order to regain match fitness.

“To be brilliant right now is impossible and it isn’t important. This year, with the Champions League, there isn’t much time to work.

“We need to train a lot now to be brilliant later on.

“Winning is always important, the team are in good shape.

“It is tough on the legs at the start [of pre-season], we have done a lot of work.

“We are still feeling weighed down, but we need to be ready for the start of the season and we need to continue to work as we are doing.”
