“This is an important match against a rugged side that can hurt us on the counter-attack,” warned Ranieri in his press conference.

“Parma know how to move very well, as on the right they have Matteo Darmian and Dejan Kulusevski, while on the other side there is the unpredictable Gervinho. It’s a game we need to win, but must also be very wary of the dangers.”

Samp had been 3-1 up away to Cagliari on Monday, only to capitulate 4-3 in stoppages.

“I had to make some forced changes, losing Albin Ekdal and Gaston Ramirez, plus Cagliari are in great shape. There is regret, as we lost a game we didn’t deserve to, but the positive thing is the performance up until the final 20 minutes.

“We showed a lack of experience and also the team is accustomed to defending the ball, whereas I’d like us to keep an eye on the man too. It’s a different philosophy and takes time to change.

“This team is starting to believe in itself and we now need the determination to get ourselves out of the quicksand.”

Sampdoria’s strikers are also on the right track after a sluggish start to the campaign and today Fabio Quagliarella signed a contract extension to June 2021.

“Quagliarella broke his duck and is now ready to fly. He is important for Sampdoria and for me. As for Gabbiadini, he’s such a talent, but needs to smile more.”
