Claudio Ranieri admits ‘no-one’s ever called me’ about becoming Italy’s next CT but notes ‘I don’t feel out of the running’ either.

Ranieri was mentioned by the FIGC’s commissionership as a candidate early last month, although the Nantes boss seems to have fallen behind the likes of Antonio Conte, Roberto Mancini and Carlo Ancelotti.

“In the running to become Italy CT? No-one’s ever called me, I’ve only read it in the newspapers,” the Premier League champion told Radio Uno.

“In the running to become Italy CT? No-one’s ever called me, I’ve only read it in the newspapers,” the Premier League champion told Radio Uno.

“If they were to call me, I’d talk about it with Nantes, whom I have a contract with, but I don’t feel like I’m in or out of the running.

“We must be calm, serene and give the new Coach the chance to create an important team, with some interesting young players, but they need international experience first.

“We must experiment so that our youngsters have the opportunity to grow: it’s true that the super champions of the past aren’t around anymore, but we must give our youngsters time to express themselves at international level.

“Time doesn’t exist in Italy and they want everything now, but I repeat: we need to give these lads time because only by trying again can a strong team be blossomed.”
