Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey revealed ‘it was tough for long periods’ when Wales lost 1-0 to Italy in the third match of Euro 2020.
The Welsh are through to the last 16 despite losing at the Olimpico, when Matteo Pessina scored the winner in the 39th minute.
Ramsey was expected to be a threat for the Azzurri and the Bianconeri player stressed they ‘could have nicked a draw’ even with 10 men.
“It was tough for long periods,” Ramsey told ITV. “We were up against a great team, who’ve gone 30 games unbeaten.
Ethan Ampadu was sent off for a late challenge on Federico Bernardeschi and Ramsey said he feels ‘sorry’ for the youngster.
“But again we showed great character. We dug in for Ethan, I feel sorry for him,” the Juventus player added.
“We had each other’s back out there and we did the job. [After the red card] it was important to stay compact and try to create a couple of opportunities, which we did.
“We could have nicked a draw on another day … We have a lot of attacking threat, we keep games really tight and we work hard for each other … We’re through in second place so we’re delighted.”
