The Uruguay international has been struggling for form recently and the Saints loaned him out to Hull City.

“I know that Roberto Mancini likes him a great deal, going all the way back to his days at Manchester City when he was tracking progress at Bologna,” agent Pablo Betancourt told fcinternews.it.

“Then Mancini called me from Galatasaray to take Ramirez to Turkey, but it was impossible at the time to secure the transfer.

“I have to be honest, Gaston hasn’t played the way he could’ve done in the Premier League due to injuries, team changes and tactical issues. That is why people are talking about him on the transfer market.

“I am discussing it with two Serie A clubs who have approached us and we are starting to talk, but Inter are not one of them. They are two clubs, one very important and one less so, but who are doing very well this season.

“In June he’ll return from the loan spell to Southampton and his price-tag is lower than when they signed him for €20m. At the end of the season, he’ll have only one year left on his contract.

“Southampton listen to the player and what he wants to do. He impressed the first year with six goals and the manager had faith in him, but from then on he didn’t play much.

“Gaston will never say it publicly, but he wants to come back to Italy, as this is his football. I am sure wherever he goes in Italy he will do very well.

“In my view he’s made for Serie A and any club that signs him will be getting a great deal. I don’t know if it’ll be now or in June, but as far as I am concerned Gaston is close to a comeback in Italy.”
