Ivan Rakitic has put Serie A clubs on red alert after confessing that he is “sad” at Barcelona.

Rakitic has fallen down Barca’s midfield pecking order this season, and the Croat made it clear he would not accept a peripheral role at Camp Nou for much longer.

“How can I have fun? By playing football,” the 31-year-old told Movistar+.

“And it’s like I often say, how does my little daughter feel when you take a toy away from her? Sad.

“How can I have fun? By playing football,” the 31-year-old told Movistar+.

“And it’s like I often say, how does my little daughter feel when you take a toy away from her? Sad.

“Well, I feel the same. [Barca] have taken my ball away from me and I’m sad about it.

“I understand and respect the decisions of the coach, club or whoever, but I think I’ve given a lot in these five years.

“What I want is to continue having fun, that’s the most important thing for me. I can only have fun by playing.

“I’m 31 years old, not 38, and I feel like I’m in my prime.”

Inter are the Italian side credited with the strongest interest in the Croat, although Milan are also said to be looking at him.

Juve, meanwhile, were reported to have made a late move for him over the summer and could go back in for him this January.
