Sampdoria have officially announced that veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella has suffered a serious knee injury.

The 39-year-old Italian forward, whose contract expires with the Blucerchiati at the end of this season, suffered the knee injury during a training session in their retreat in Turkey. He has struggled for consistent minutes this season and still hasn’t found the back of the net across 14 appearances.

As confirmed by Sampdoria, Quagliarella has suffered a ligament lesion in his left knee, an injury that has forced him to return to Italy to undergo further tests. He will now be set for a period on the sidelines and some are worried that the injury will push him into retirement.

The veteran forward has been with Sampdoria since 2016 and was Capocannoniere in the 2018-19 season after netting 26 goals in 37 Serie A appearances. He is known for his ability to score some of the most impressive and beautiful goals, creating incredible highlight reels.
