There are growing reports UEFA are under pressure to expand Euro 2020 teams to 25 players after confirming there could be five substitutions per game.

The decision to uphold the five substitutions per match was ratified today in a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee.

That might not be the only adjustment to the rules for the tournament, which was postponed from last summer due to the pandemic.

There are usually 23 players allowed in the squad, but with injuries and above all the threat of COVID still looming large, calls are growing for an expansion to 25.

According to the Daily Telegraph, this could mean the squad size will increase or they will be allowed a list of standby players who can be drafted in at late notice.

Tuttomercatoweb pundit Tancredi Palmeri claims that Poland’s Football Federation has formally requested an expansion of the Euro 2020 squads to 25 players.

If others follow suit, that could lead to a rapid changing of existing rules.
