Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has revealed Cesare Prandelli is close to leaving and that he ‘likes’ Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli.

The Grifone barely avoided relegation last season, having to wait until the final day to secure their Serie A status with a draw at Fiorentina.

Prandelli, a former Italy CT, replaced Ivan Juric as Coach in December but won just four of his 24 games at the helm.

“The club is for sale. I’m tired and, if I get a serious offer, I’ll sell. If not, I’ll have to stay on,” Preziosi told reporters.

“Stefano Capozucca will return as sporting director; we’ve already reached an agreement and he’ll come back to lend us a hand. If things go well, we can resume our journey together.”

Capozucca spent eight years as sporting director of the Rossoblu between 2004 and 2012, before filling the same role at both Livorno and Cagliari. Last season, he was employed by Frosinone as their strategic advisor.

As for who could possibly replace Prandelli, the patron confirmed his interest in one particular candidate.

“I like Aurelio Andreazzoli. He’s a Coach that I like, but he’s still under contract with Empoli, as are other Coaches we’re looking at. They’ll have to resolve their contracts before we can make a decision on them.

“We’re moving towards terminating Prandelli’s contract and we’re looking for an agreement that makes both parties happy.

“We’ll have to sort that out before appointing a new Coach.”
