Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi has attributed Riccardo Saponara’s poor start to the season to sections of the Press “sticking their oars” into his future.

Saponara was linked with a move to a bigger club over the summer, but despite ultimately staying at Empoli, the attacking midfielder has failed to score or assist a teammate in eight Serie A appearances so far this season.

“Saponara? There are people who wanted to stick their oars into the issue of his renewal,” Corsi told Radio Marte.

“This disturbed the lad, but he’s now calmer and feels responsibility for his situation.”
