Sergio Campana has announced he'll quit the Italian Players' Association after 43 years at the helm.

He founded the union of players, known as the AIC, on July 3, 1968.

“I think the time has come for my replacement to take over and I consider my mandate to be closed,” declared 76-year-old Campana.

He will oversee his final meeting of the AIC on May 9 and on that occasion the new President will be voted in.
