Cesare Prandelli hailed Mario Balotelli for his first Italy goal and his consistency against Poland.

“This is worth a lot, as aside from the goal, he played a great game and was always in the thick of things,” said the Coach after a 2-0 friendly victory.

“Compliments to Mario and the whole team. It’s important to maintain a certain balance and I think the lads approached the match well, keeping another clean sheet.

“Poland started strong and we struggled to find depth, but we persevered and created some very good chances.”

The Azzurri went from a 4-3-1-2 in the first half to a 4-3-3 after the break with Balotelli wide on the left.

“We interpreted the system well and perhaps in the first half were too distant between the strikers. We did better after the break and had more opportunities to go on the counter at pace.”

Prandelli hopes there will be a full house at the Olimpico in Rome on Tuesday against Uruguay.

“We have to do our part and it is a difficult time in the country, but Italy must be united, just as this squad is.”
