Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli says he “agrees with Fabio Capello” over his decision to quit the England job. “There was something more behind it.”

Capello resigned on Wednesday after protesting at the FA’s decision to take the captain’s armband off John Terry.

“I agree with Capello,” Prandelli told the Secolo XIX newspaper. “If someone like him leaves three months before a competition he really cares about, then it means something is wrong, quite beyond the issue of the captain’s armband.

“There was something more behind it.”

Prandelli is going to Euro 2012 after Italy qualified unbeaten in their group for a record-breaking run.

“I had found a strike force that worked well with Giuseppe Rossi and Antonio Cassano, so we hope they recover in time.

“Spain gave great consistency to their results and showed all their football DNA with a talented Coach and many impressive individuals.

“I am also very impressed by the work done by Joachim Löw on the German bench. Löw renewed the squad and lowered the average age, but above all adopted a different style of football. He broke the stereotype of German football and showed a different aspect to their culture.

“More should take that example, as it is the only way to progress.”
