Former Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli is on the verge of losing his job at Turkish side Galatasaray, reports suggest.

Prandelli took charge in Istanbul this summer after leaving his post with the Azzurri following a disastrous showing at this summer’s World Cup.

However, his reign with Galatasaray has gotten off to an inauspicious start, with a 4-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in midweek being followed up by another 4-0 reverse to newly promoted Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.

The result leaves Gala fifth in the Turkish Super Lig, and according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the club’s hierarchy is considering the former Fiorentina Coach’s position.

Prandelli did not attend a post-match Press conference in the wake of the Basaksehir defeat, and the Gazzetta reports that newly-elected Galatasaray President Duygun Yarsuvat will make a decision when he officially takes office on Tuesday.

Prandelli does have the backing of at least one player however, with the sports newspaper running quotes from former Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo, who spoke out in support of the Coach.

“The Coach isn’t the culprit, it’s us players,” Melo is reported as saying.

“Galatasaray cannot lose 4-0 twice in three days. The players know how important this shirt is. We sweat for this shirt.

“If you don’t sweat for the shirt, you can’t be a Galatasaray player.”
