Cesare Prandelli has commended Serie A’s Champions League sides for helping to shift the League’s image to the international audience.

Inter assured passage to the knockout rounds by winning Group B with a game to spare whilst the same night saw Napoli beat Manchester City. Wednesday saw Milan run European Cup holders Barcelona close in a thriller.

“The results were good, very good performances. And then, as we said a few weeks ago, it is something that is important from the point of view of changing the country’s international identity.”

Earlier this week Marcello Lippi compared the current group of Italy players as similar in mentality and style to that which he coached to World Cup glory in 2006. When asked of this, Prandelli was more than grateful.

“What Marcello said made me very happy. If he has noticed then that means that this team is doing something good.

“We know that he was not only a winner, but that his group of players were unique. I have to just thank him.”

Finally, Prandelli finished with a word on Antonio Cassano’s continued recovery.

“We felt [his desire] last week [when he returned to Milanello to begin his recovery]. He is undergoing a period of rest, but he has the desire and determination to return quickly to the field.”
