Cesare Prandelli doesn’t want to “put pressure” on Giuseppe Rossi for the World Cup and hailed Giancarlo Antognoni.

The Italy Coach spoke to journalists at an event in Florence celebrating the 60th birthday of former Azzurri and Viola legend Antognoni.

“Giancarlo represents Fiorentina and all of Italian football in general,” said Prandelli. “With immense class and great fair play, he has always stood out as a man beloved by everyone.

“Like Francesco Totti and Paolo Maldini, Antognoni made history of Italian football. They were all faithful to one club and deserve praise for that.”

Current Fiorentina star Rossi was also at the meeting and spoke with Prandelli about his recovery from a knee ligament injury.

“I saw him, we embraced, but we won’t put pressure on him. We await Rossi.”

The striker has been out of action since the start of January and time is running out for him to be fit for the 2014 World Cup.
