The Grifone go head-to-head with the Viola, who could also still be relegated, but need to get a better result than Empoli manage away to Inter.

Failing that, they can send Fiorentina down by winning, although if Udinese also lose and those three end up together on 40 points, Genoa have to get a victory by at least two clear goals.

“It was a strange week, because we know how important this game is and have to remember it is all still in our own hands,” said Prandelli at his Press conference.

“There is a great deal of determination, but also a strong mentality. It’s never a good sign if you are too hasty, so determination is the key, but with a cool head.

“It was a cruel twist of fate that put me in this situation against my old club, but I keep any personal emotions to myself.”

Genoa ultras had boycotted the matches for most of the season, but after news President Enrico Preziosi has put the club up for sale, they will flock to the Stadio Franchi.

“It’s marvellous to see and feeling the fans close gives us so much motivation. It’s a game for everyone to get involved, as there is something crucial at stake and we can achieve it together.

“Fiorentina’s style is all about changes of pace and through balls to break the offside trap, where they can be devastating, so we must stay solid at the back.

“When I arrived, I felt there would be a fight to the end and was proved right. We struggled to score goals over the last 10 rounds and that made it inevitable.

“There must be no fear. We are aware of the difficulties that we face, but cannot have room for fear. We just need focus and concentration.”

Lukas Lerager, Darko Lazovic and Oscar Hiljemark are out of action, with Giuseppe Pezzella suspended.

“We had a few issues during the week, as Gianluca Lapadula had a sprain, while Ervin Zukanovic needs a fitness test in the morning.”

Genoa squad for Fiorentina: Marchetti, Gunter, Criscito, Sanabria, Lapadula, Kouamé, Biraschi, Mazzitelli, Romero, Rolon, Pandev, Radovanovic, Bessa, Vodisek, Dalmonte, Pereira, Lakicevic, Favilli, Veloso, Zukanovic, Jandrei, Radu, Schafer
