Cesare Prandelli felt “humiliated” at Valencia and reveals “they asked me to be both Coach and director without any real chance of making it work.”

The Italian tactician resigned just three months into his tenure at the Mestalla.

“When I could no longer work transparently, I felt humiliated,” Prandelli told Mediaset Premium today.

“They asked me to be a Coach and a director, without giving me any real chance of making it work. We had agreed the priority was Simone Zaza, who we had a deal with, and I could not accept the fact that after 20 days in which we were in full agreement on this, he came to me and asked if we wanted a midfielder.

“It was like starting from scratch. I felt humiliated and preferred to terminate a contract that still had 18 months left on it. With that saved money on wages, maybe they can do something on the transfer market now, seeing as they have Financial Fair Play problems.

“Zaza did arrive in the end and I think he can do well. The Valencia project was intriguing, but they are paying for past errors where they paid far too much for players.

“Valencia assumed, wrongly, that because they had the fourth biggest wage bill in La Liga, they had to finish in fourth place. They have an economic approach to the sport, but football’s not like that.”
