Udinese President Giampaolo Pozzo has reaffirmed his faith in the team ahead of the crucial Champions League clash against Braga.

The Zebrette face the Portuguese outfit on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League play-off round tie, as they strive to go one better than last year, when they were eliminated at the same stage by Arsenal.

“Last year against Arsenal we were unlucky, this year I am confident,” the patron, who also owns controlling shares in Granada and Watford, told Sky Sport Italia. “It would be a real shame to miss a chance like this.”

There has been some scepticism regarding the Friulani's chances after the sales of key men Kwadwo Asamoah and Mauricio Isla, but Pozzo is undeterred.

“Even though we lost two important players in Isla and Asamoah, we have replaced them well. In the preliminaries you also need luck, but the squad has the will and the potential to reach the group stages.”

Pozzo then saluted the clubs icon, Antonio Di Natale, as he prepares to commence his ninth season at the Stadio Friuli.

“He’s a player who deserves a lot for what he has done for this team. He is very fond of these colours and this club, and has always been consistent.

“He has received many offers but never gave up and remained here. He is our pride and our bandiera. For the club, as for Di Natale, it’s a great honour playing in the Champions League.”
