Matteo Politano is reportedly at risk of missing Napoli’s Serie A season opener against Hellas Verona due to an injury.

The 29-year-old Italian forward was forced off in the first half of the Partenopei’s pre-season friendly against Girona earlier this week, suffering a slight calf issue. Politano has not had an easy summer, seemingly looking for a move away with Valencia interested before ultimately remaining in Campania.

As reported by Il Mattino, initial tests have revealed that Politano has suffered a slight muscle issue in his left calf, an issue that hasn’t resolved itself in recent days. Napoli are keeping a close eye on the problem and he’ll undergo a more thorough set of tests tomorrow to try to diagnose the seriousness of the injury.

The 29-year-old Politano is therefore at risk of missing Napoli’s season opener against Hellas Verona on August 15.

Last season, Politano scored three goals and provided four assists in 33 Serie A appearances.
