Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that Inter are now ‘more serious’ about buying striker Lukas Podolski, even if ‘nothing is inevitable’.

The Frenchman had dismissed rumours of the Germany international’s transfer to San Siro as ‘a joke’ only three days ago, but he has since backtracked on those words, re-opening speculation.

“The first proposal was farcical – after, that they came back a bit more serious, and now we’ll see what happens,” Wenger has told reporters this week.

Many have characterised Podolski's move to the Italian club as inevitable, but the manager says that word should not be used to describe the situation.

“Not in the transfer market,” said Wenger. “It's very difficult to say, but we'll see later.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Polish-born striker may be willing to take a pay-cut to make up the difference in the initial fee Inter and Arsenal are negotiating on his loan.

For the pink paper, this makes the deal’s completion imminent.
