The Premier League has warned that “difficult decisions will have to be taken” before normal service can resume in English football.

Professional football in England did not stop until March 13, two weeks after Serie A began postponing matches.

Now, the top flight has announced that – along with the EFL and PFA – “difficult decisions will have to be taken in order to mitigate the economic impact of the current suspension of professional football in England and agreed to work together to arrive at shared solutions.”

Therefore, league football in England “will not recommence until 30 April at the earliest. They will only do so when it is safe and conditions allow.

“Further meetings will take place next week with a view to formulating a joint plan to deal with the difficult circumstances facing the leagues, their clubs, players, staff and fans.”

It comes on a day when The Athletic reported Premier League clubs were increasingly behind ending the season with immediate effect.
