Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli felt the 2-1 defeat at Empoli was decided by poor “defending on set plays.”
The Aquile had been unbeaten in six and a win here would’ve put them clear in third place.
Instead, the 2-1 result was a wake-up call, especially against an Empoli side that had lost its last three in a row.
“We lost without ever really allowing a shot on goal from open play,” moaned Pioli on Sky Sport Italia.
“We could’ve done a lot better defending on those set plays that generated the two goals. It was a hard-fought game and we had the right attitude at the start, but didn’t finish off our chances.
“We had also created a great deal in the first half without finding the net. The reaction after going 2-0 down was good and we tried to the end for an equaliser.”
