Inter Coach Stefano Pioli assures there are no issues between him and “great professional” Antonio Candreva.

The midfielder criticised Pioli for not awarding him the captain’s armband while at Lazio, only for the pair to be reunited at San Siro.

“I’ve always thought Antonio was a great professional,” Pioli assured Rai.

“I found him very motivated at Inter. The idea is to be an unpredictable team and try to do everything from an attacking point of view.

“There were problems with Antonio at Lazio because of the story with the armband, but that year expectations were high, and our exit from the Champions League created a negative atmosphere.”

Pioli also discussed some other members of his squad, starting with new signing Roberto Gagliardini.

“He has great energy, physicality and positional sense. He can become a complete and important midfielder for Inter and the national team.

“Mauro Icardi? We all know strikers are only judged by goals. Mauro is working so hard, he’s our first line of defence, and he sets the tone for the rest of the team as the captain.

“He still needs to grow, of course, because he’s still young, but his numbers speak for themselves. He’s a great striker.

“As for Geoffrey Kondogbia, he has the potential to be a complete midfielder. He has important steps to take in terms of thinking and seeing the game ahead of him, but he’s growing.

“He needed confidence and he immediately made himself available for me.

“Joao Mario? He’s a great player, and the first year in the Italian League is always difficult for foreigners.

“He can improve in the final third, but we’re working and I think we’ll get great results.”

Stevan Jovetic was allowed to leave, but has scored twice in two games for Sevilla…

“I’m happy for him,” Pioli insisted.

“He needed space that I couldn't give him. He’s a quality player and I wish him the best.”
