Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli wants to see improvement from his side – “we want to get out of this situation”.

The Biancocelesti haven’t won in four Serie A games, with three of those ending in defeat, and the squad was placed into ritiro this week.

“We can do more,” Pioli admitted in his Press conference ahead of the Europa League match with Dnipro.

“We’ve lost confidence and conviction and we have to recover it. Clearly if you look at the results you can only see negative things.

“I have to look at the numbers available. We’re only one point worse off than at this point last season. We have the third-worst defence when we’re allowing less shots [11.1 per game, the fifth-best in the League].

“After Napoli we’re the team which attacks the most, and shoots at the goal most. Even in goals scored we should be further ahead.

“We can do better, I understand that we’re not in the best mental condition, but we shouldn’t rush our moves. If we move the ball more we’ll feel the benefit.

“Words don’t interest me much, what counts is attitude. I’m seeing a squad which wants to get out of this situation, we want to fight and suffer together.

“There’s another fact: we’re the team who have played the most Sundays in the League. It depends on condition and also desire. It’s clear we’re not satisfied.

“The ritiro? The decision was taken by the club, and shared by the Coach.”

The Aquile have performed better in the Europa League than in Serie A, is there a reason for that?

“Perhaps the difference is that we only play once in a while. We’re lacking consistency, but in the Europa League we play less.

“We have different opponents, we’re facing teams that play and create, which maybe suits our style better. We’ve played well from every point of view.

“It’s unusual not to have won for the past month in the League, we want to go through with a round to spare.

“We can do well.”
