Stefano Pioli admits Inter “have a mountain to climb” in the Europa League, but will give their all against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

It kicks off tomorrow in Israel at 18.00 GMT and the Nerazzurri’s campaign is hanging by a thread after one win and three defeats.

“We showed character in the derby and want to give our best tomorrow as well. It won’t be easy, but we will try to win,” said Pioli in his Press conference.

It will be the tactician’s second game in charge after making his debut in a 2-2 draw with Milan at the weekend.

“We are working on all the various situations. We’re well aware that here isn’t much time, but have to take each game as it comes.

“We have studied Hapoel Be’er-Sheva and watched the first leg back carefully. They are doing well domestically too, so a very tough test awaits us.”

Hapoel earned a shock 2-0 victory at San Siro on September 15, the beginning of the end for Coach Frank de Boer’s 84-day tenure.

The Nerazzurri are bottom of Group K on three points, Hapoel have four, Southampton seven and Sparta Prague nine.

“We have a mountain to climb, but we will give it our best shot,” added the new boss.

Ever Banega was dropped for the Milan Derby match, so where does Pioli see the Argentine?

“We are talking about a great player. I haven’t dropped anyone, as I choose on a game by game basis who I consider most suited to that encounter.

“I cannot say if he’ll play or not, but I like a dynamic midfield and he’s good at playing between the lines.”

Despite only just being appointed, newspapers are continually referencing the idea Pioli will be pushed aside either at the end of this season or in 2018 to make way for Diego Simeone.

“I don’t think about these things. I just want to work and make the most of this great opportunity to bring Inter back where the club deserves to be,” replied Pioli.

“Pressure is normal, as we are Inter and therefore have to play our cards. We’ll be ready tomorrow night.”
