Lazio face Hellas in Verona on Thursday night amid a positive atmosphere and on the back of four consecutive victories.

“Appreciation for our work is nice for our technical staff, the players and the club,” Pioli told reporters during his usual pre-match Press conference.

“We did well to remain upbeat when things weren’t going according to our plans, but now we shouldn’t ease down too much either. We’ve got to stay alert.

“The fact we are creating a positive atmosphere around us is due to the players’ attitude. Obviously we will be happy when we’ll see even more fans at the Olimpico.”

Miroslav Klose was back on the scoresheet against Torino and Pioli was asked whether the German could be deployed alongside his Serbian counterpart up front.

“I think that Klose and [Filip] Djordjevic can play together because I think that Miro can link up between the midfield and attack as a centre forward, whilst Filip is able to attack from deep better. We need to look for the right balance.

“I try to improve the team during a game and adjust the line-up on the pitch. It’s not a player coming in that matters most, but rather the mentality of the whole team.

“Every time that we lose distance between positions, we risk something more. And this should not happen.

“We must be aggressive, but when we can’t be tight, we need to wait a bit more. Attention, balance and awareness are important things for our growth.

“Last Sunday for instance we showed some maturity but this is just the beginning. Work is our strength because everyone in this team has approached it with professionalism.

“The care towards details can make the difference and will give us results in the near future.”

Talking of which, Pioli added that Lazio will need an even pace in order to achieve their targets.

“I am not worried about the pressures of finishing third. Balance is not part of this [football] world.

“Like a 100m runner, we just can’t slow down before the finish line. Distances between us and other teams are minimal, so we must give our best until the very end.”
