The Biancocelesti fought back from a goal down to beat Palermo 2-1 with a Candreva gem.

“It was a difficult match against a team in great shape that caused us problems, so it was only right to celebrate with our fans at the final whistle,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“All our results have to be fought for with great effort and today we proved that on the pitch. There is fierce competition for European places and it will be like that to the end.

“We are ambitious and believe we can win every game, so we have to keep riding that mentality. With this spirit we can try to pick up even the most difficult points. We believe and want to get back into Europe.”

There was a bizarre incident after the winning goal, as Candreva went to celebrate under the Curva Nord, slipped and limped off with a knee injury.

“He’s fine and he had to go and celebrate with the fans. Fortunately it doesn’t appear to be anything serious. I prefer all injuries to be accompanied by a winning goal!”

Mauricio’s howler gifted Paulo Dybala with the opener and Palermo had several other very good scoring opportunities.

“There was a mistake on the first goal, but other than that I thought Mauricio had a good game. We had great respect for Palermo and played with intelligence and maturity.

“Incidents went our way because we believed and our great spirit was rewarded today.”
