Fiorentina boss Stefano Pioli says he “doesn’t understand” why Sampdoria were given an extra day of preparation for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia tie.

Fiorentina held Napoli to a stalemate a day after Samp drew 2-2 with Cagliari, and Pioli was visibly frustrated as he also demanded more from profligate striker Khouma Babacar and dismissed talk of a possible meeting with the Della Valle family.

“We come into the tie from an away trip and a very draining commitment,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We have players coming back from injuries and I don’t understand why Sampdoria should have one more day to rest.

“For us, going far in the Coppa would be an achievement, so we want to try to make it happen.

“Babacar? He has potential, but he can do more and I expect more from him, the maximum.

“Meeting with the club? I don’t have time to report for any meeting right now. I see owners that are physically distant but, at the same time, present every day.

“They’re also very important in many other situations. They’re supportive and we share a common goal, which is the most important thing.

“Whether a face-to-face meeting happens sooner or later, it makes no difference.”
