Chile Coach Claudio Borghi sent the striker home from a training camp in Portgual after he picked up a muscle injury.
Tests carried out last night indicate that it's minor contraction to his quadriceps and he'll train with Palermo on Tuesday.
Pinilla didn't want to risk aggravating the injury after already being out for 14 games with a metatarsal fracture.
