Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic has suggested tomorrow night's meeting with Napoli could be an eliminator for the Scudetto race.
Both teams started the season with three consecutive wins before suffering disappointing weekend results, Lazio losing 1-0 to Genoa, Napoli drawing 0-0 at Catania.
And Petkovic believes whoever prevails at the Stadio San Paolo tomorrow could go on to be Juventus' primary challenger in the title race.
“It will be an important game for the rest of the season,” the ex-Young Boys strategist told a press conference today.
“But I think both teams will continue to fight at the top of the standings. And then we'll see who can fight with Juventus.”
“The important thing in Naples is to have rhythm. Nobody is stronger than us. We have to have this belief and show our worth on the field.”
Petkovic is full of admiration for his opposite number.
“Walter Mazzarri is an excellent Coach, bringing new ideas to football in recent years. It is not always easy to keep your head up, but he is succeeding.”
The Bosnian concluded with praise for his squad as a whole, which some have said is not strong enough to sustain a Scudetto challenge.
“It is not true that we are Miroslav Klose dependent. I want a squad with players who can exploit opportunities and create them. Luis Cavanda has done well. Hernanes couldn't play yesterday, but we'll see how how he is today.
“Cristian Ledesma is not irreplaceable. Mauro Zarate? He has not disappointed me in particular, after a defeat I am unhappy with myself first of all.”
