“We will work hard to return to the top flight after a difficult season.”

President Massimo Cellino has openly discussed Sandro Tonali’s future in Lombardy this spring, but the former Genoa and Palermo was more reserved on the topic.

“Restarting without Tonali? It would be nice to be able to start from the base of this team which, let’s not forget, only a year ago deservedly won Serie B.

“But the market has endless ways, so let’s see.”

Diego Lopez replaced Eugenio Corini in February but couldn’t help the Biancazzurri stay up.

Despite relegating to Serie B, Perinetti has revealed he could still be in charge next season.

“He is our coach and he could be here next season too,” the sporting director said. “First, I want to talk to him and understand his intentions and motivations.

“In these cases, I always keep the door open.”
