Coach Gian Piero Gasperini had warned in yesterday’s Press conference “the team that loses could be cut out of the race to stay in Serie A.”
Palermo had been in front, but were beaten 2-1 on home turf and fans protested inside the stadium by setting fire to flags and banners.
The ultras then gathered outside with a group of around 200 hurling abuse at the team and President Maurizio Zamparini.
“Today reflects what has happened to us this season, as every good thing we do turns back on us,” said Perinetti.
“I haven’t spoken to Zamparini yet, as it’s better to talk with a cool head. So far the changes of management haven’t brought a great deal.
“At this point we have to understand how to face the difficulties of this team, which have to be psychological, as today we lost at home after taking the lead.
“We have the moral duty to finish the season with dignity. We must end as well as possible, although I don’t know what ‘as well as possible’ can really mean.”
