The 23-year-old has one official cap for the Azzurri, and went with Cesare Prandelli’s squad to the World Cup in 2014.

“I’m thinking about it,” Perin acknowledged on the Grifone’s official website when asked about this summer’s tournament in France.

“In recent years I’ve been part of the national team, it’s remains a big objective. The competition is fierce though, and I’ll have to prove I deserve a call with my club form.”

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Torino yesterday, and the goalkeeper believes they’ve taken some important strides.

“We knew how important it was to win these last few games, and we’ve succeeded.

“The points total tells us that we’re almost out of the [relegation] fight, we have a team that deserves more and now it’s up to us to close the issue and finish the season on a high.

“Our position has improved a lot.”

Finally, the youngster was asked about Gigi Buffon, who will break Sebastiano Rossi’s Serie A clean sheet record against Torino next weekend if he isn’t beaten in the first three minutes.

“Buffon is legendary,” Perin said.

“We’re all rooting for him to surpass Sebastiano Rossi’s unbeaten record.”
