Inter veteran Edin Dzeko proved to be the difference maker in the 1-0 win over league leaders Napoli, earning high praise from the Italian press.

The 36-year-old Bosnian forward started alongside star Romelu Lukaku in the blockbuster clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, being tasked with finding a breakthrough against Luciano Spalletti’s high-flying side. Dzeko came up with the goods in the 56th minute of the match, with his bullet header being enough to pick up all three points for Inter.

La Gazzetta dello Sport praised Dzeko for his work, underlining his high work rate and ability to be decisive in key moments, noting: “He has football in his head, even before his feet. Perfect for all seasons and all departmental partners, it’s like having three of them on the field. He finishes and finishes, you can even find him in coverage: lucky whoever who has him.”

Tuttosport echoed these sentiments and also drew attention to the Bosnian veteran’s link up play, highlighting: “He picked up from where he left off. In the first half, with a visionary assist, he had packed a great ball for Darmian.”

Corriere dello Sport were equally impressed with the former Manchester City man’s work, touching on his impact throughout the game, saying: “The season restarts with his goal. The header, a specialty of the house, is actually a header, a deadly torpedo on Dimarco’s cross. Throughout the match he is the usual valuable reference in attack.”

Finally, Corriere della Sera agreed with their counterparts, praising his various qualities: “Muscle and brains and a perfect frame, like a true centre forward. When he came off, San Siro held its breath, but it was just cramp.”

Dzeko’s ratings in the Italian newspapers:

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 7.5

Corriere dello Sport: 7

Tuttosport: 7.5

Corriere della Sera: 7.5
