Empoli captain Manuel Pasqual plans to lead the club back into Serie A after promotion was confirmed yesterday.

The Azzurri secured an instant return to the top-flight of Italian football following a 1-1 home draw with Novara – putting them out of reach of both Parma and Palermo.

With four matches remaining of the season, the Tuscans are also guaranteed to finish the season as Serie B champions.

“We have done something extraordinary,” the 36-year-old reflected.

“No one would have believed we could win the League with four matches remaining.

“The best thing is that this group doesn’t want to stop here. In the next four matches, we want to write history.”

The veteran confirmed that he will stay at Empoli, who he believes can impress on their return to Serie A.

“We have put everything into this because what we wanted was to bring the fans back close to the team. I think that these boys have done that.

“Serie A? I will still be here and I think the ingredients are there to do good things.”
