Parma were initially hit with a five-point penalty for the 2018-19 campaign, with Calaio suspended for two years after he was found to have ‘elicited a reduced effort’ from two of his former Spezia teammates on the final day of last term in Serie B.

His text messages, urging them to not try too hard, were seen to be influential as the Gialloblu went on to beat Spezia 2-0, thereby securing their return to the top flight.

However, the FIGC’s Court of Appeal confirmed on Thursday that Parma would only be fined 20,000 and start their first season back in Serie A on equal footing with their rivals, while the striker will be available to play again as of January 1.

Furthermore, Palermo will spend another season in the second tier after failing with their legal challenge.
