Goran Pandev declares he would like to ‘bring home the Coppa Italia’ for his new side Genoa.

The Macedonian international returned to Serie A from Galatasaray, having previously spent time at Lazio, Napoli and Inter.

“Genoa is a big club,” Pandev told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I thank [President Enrico] Preziosi and [Coach Gian Piero] Gasperini who wanted me. This is a great city, and the [Stadio Luigi] Ferraris and the Curva Nord are a marvel.

“I thank [President Enrico] Preziosi and [Coach Gian Piero] Gasperini who wanted me. This is a great city, and the [Stadio Luigi] Ferraris and the Curva Nord are a marvel.

“I wanted to come in January, but I couldn’t get away from Galatasaray. I’m here now, I gave my word. I want to win a trophy here, I’d like to bring home the Coppa Italia as I did at Lazio, Inter and Napoli.

“There’s one thing I’m certain about – we’ll have fun this year.”

Pandev also discussed his two years under Jose Mourinho at Inter, a period in which the club won the treble.

“If I look back, everything came at the right time for me. Lazio was my chance to become a big player, Inter was a team I said yes to after they’d wanted me for a long time, with a good Coach and a strong squad.

“Mourinho? His career speaks for itself, but what really hit me was the way he prepared. I knew that he gave confidence to his players, by discovering new talent in them.

“I made myself totally available. He ‘massacred’ me for two months, I think I lost five pounds.

“It was just as well, I hadn’t trained much in the previous two years [after a dispute with Lazio], and with the Champions League we were playing every three days.

“I played a lot of roles. Whatever he told me to do, that’s what I did. You should always make yourself available for the team.”
