Palermo boss Stefano Pioli has expressed his regret following Europa League elimination on Thursday.

The Rosanero needed a win in Switzerland after the 2-2 first leg draw, but could only manage a 1-1 against Thun.

"There is a lot of disappointment," the summer arrival from Chievo stated. "We wanted to start the season well.

"After just a month of work, our fitness could be no better than this – but I don't think we made a mistake.

"It's clear that this is not a good moment, but we need to respond and get back to working with attention and intensity.

"The President certainly won't be happy, like myself.

"Now we have two other objectives to play for in the shape of the League and the Coppa Italia. We have to be ready for those now."

The Sicilian side took the lead last night through Pablo Gonzalez early in the second half, but the Swiss outfit netted the decisive equaliser through Lezcano in minute 65.
