Sinisa Andelkovic is optimistic that Palermo can turn around their form against Inter, even if he admits facing the Nerazzurri and Mauro Icardi is daunting.

The Rosanero head into Week 3’s clash with just the one point to their name, having followed an opening draw with Sampdoria with defeat to Verona in Week 2.

Considering that, Andelkovic has admitted the squad is determined to set things straight, even if it means coming up against a formidable and in-form opponent personally in Icardi.

Considering that, Andelkovic has admitted the squad is determined to set things straight, even if it means coming up against a formidable and in-form opponent personally in Icardi.

“Just the one point achieved and it could have been six – something has not been right. We cannot wait to start again,” the 28-year-old defender has told the Corriere dello Sport.

“At the moment, everything Icardi touches turns to gold. He has the ambition and boldness of youth and is at the top. We respect him, but we want to stop him.”

And, of Inter as a whole?

“They have no weaknesses. We must study them in detail and repeat the performance levels shown against Sampdoria and Verona because, whatever people may say, we played well.

“Palermo need to be protagonists, without fear. Can we surprise Inter? Yes we can.”

Beppe Iachini is seen as under early-season pressure for Palermo’s winless start to the season.

“Coaches are at risk if they lose, but if they win, nobody says anything. Here the situation is clam. There are others who have lost two games and yet there is no mention of them being at risk.”

As for the future and a mooted contract renewal, Andelkovic was clear.

“My agent is dealing with it, but I’d love to stay. Let’s see how things go. I am not concerned about it – when there is news, I will find out and so will you. For now, the phone is on mute.”
